Satsumas dipped in dark chocolate and coconut oil and sprinkled with desiccated coconut. A healthy, low sugar snack perfect for the festive season!

Fruit Dipped In Chocolate

Dipping fruit in chocolate is nothing new and I quite often make these Chocolate Dipped Fruit Cones for the kids in the summer holidays if they have friends over or for kids parties.

But trying to get the kids to eat fruit in the lead up to Christmas when there is so much other more appealing stuff about can be a nightmare!

So I decided to spruce up the humble satsuma (which is in season at this time of year!) with my favourite ingredient….chocolate!

My holiday chocolate satsumas make these little shots of Vitamin C that little bit more appealing to kids.

To Make Chocolate Dipped Satsumas

Ingredients You Will Need

  • Satsumas
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Coconut Oil
  • Desiccated Coconut

Ingredient Substitutions

Satsumas

You could swap these out for clementines although clementines do tend to be slightly tangier than satsumas so I’ve used satsumas making them more kid-friendly.

Dark Chocolate

You can swap this out for milk chocolate if you think your kids won’t eat dark chocolate, but dark chocolate has a lower sugar content than milk chocolate making it the slightly healthier option.

Coconut Oil

If you don’t like the coconut taste, then you could use refined coconut oil which has a much milder coconut taste to it.

Desiccated Coconut

If your kids aren’t a fan of desiccated coconut, then you can leave this out completely!

Festive Snacks

Let’s face, it we all over indulge a little (or a lot!) over the Christmas period, but I think this festive chocolate-dipped fruit makes the perfect snack for after school or to tackle that mid afternoon work slump.

So having some healthy and nutritious snacks to hand will help balance out all those extra Christmas treats!

Description

Satsumas dipped in chocolate and coconut oil and sprinkled with desiccated coconut. A healthy, low sugar snack for kids and adults alike!

Ingredients

  • 5 satsumas
  • 75g dark chocolate (use vegan if necessary)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tsp desiccated coconut

Instructions

  1. Peel the satsumas and separate into segments.
  2. Melt the chocolate and coconut oil together in a saucepan over a low heat. Stir continuously until everything has melted and is well combined. Be sure not to burn the chocolate. Remove from the heat.
  3. Dip each satsuma segment into the melted chocolate and place on a plate or baking tray. Once all the segments have been dipped, place the tray in the fridge for 5 minutes to allow the chocolate to set.
  4. Remove from the fridge and dip each segment in the chocolate a second time and then immediately sprinkle on some desiccated coconut. Return to the fridge for a further 5 minutes.
  5. These Chocolate Dipped Satsumas will keep in the fridge for a couple of days, it is best to eat them within 24 hours as they will begin to dry out.

Oh my god, I absolutely love these!!! The chocolate goes so well with the satsumas and it’s definitely a more enticing way to eat fruit!

I thought this was a great idea and pinned it on Pinterest. However the pin got reported and subsequently deleted. The reason given was “Whilst many copyright owners are happy to have their content on Pinterest, we recognise that some do not want their content to appear on Pinterest or want to receive attribution for the content. When a copyright owner sends us a complete notice per the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), it’s our policy to remove the Pin(s). “

Hi Dorothy, I don’t have a problem at all with people pinning my recipes. In fact Im grateful when they do. But unfortunately another blogger has taken a lot of my recipes pins and has changed the url so that they re-direct to her site rather than mine. I reported this to pinterest but they have no taken down ALL the images of this recipe rather then just the one that the blogger was re-directing to her site. I have emailed them and hopefully they will be re-instating the valid pins shortly. Thanks!

We have mandarins too. Mandarins / Satsumas / Clementines are all interchangeable in the UK!
