The best Christmas party snack. Nutella sandwiched between puff pastry, cut into star shapes and baked in a wreath shape.

Nutella Puff Pastry Star Wreath presented on a white plate with a light dusting of icing sugar.

Wow your guests this Christmas with this showstopper dessert!

It looks so impressive but it actually really easy to make with just a few simple ingredients.

Nutella Puff Pastry Star Wreath, with a close up of puff pastry one star.

Start with a roll of puff pastry and some Nutella.

Nutella being spread into the raw puff pastry with two spoons.

Spread the Nutella across the whole of the puff pastry.

Nutella evenly spread over the puff pastry.

Then add a second roll of puff pastry to the top.

Push down on the top layer so that it all sticks together.

The other sheet of puff pastry being laid over the first sheet, with the layer of Nutella inbetween.

Use a star cutter to cut out shapes from the pastry.

The star cutter I used was 6cm in size but you can use a slightly larger or small one too.

Use a large dinner plate to draw a circle shape onto some parchment paper.

Large white plate being drawn around on to a piece of grease proof paper, to make the template for the wreath.

Add the cut out stars all around the circle, overlapping them slightly.

Add some egg wash to the top.

Stars positioned onto the grease proof paper template.

Bake in the oven for 15 minutes until golden brown.

Once cooked, dust with icing sugar and it’s ready to serve.

Recipe FAQ’s

Nutella Alternative – If you want to make this nut free then a chocolate spread without hazelnuts will work just as well. I think it would also be delicious with Biscoff!

Egg Alternative – Instead of egg you can use some milk brushed on to the top of the pastry.

Offcuts – There will be lots of offcuts from the pastry. Don’t throw them away! Bake them up on another baking tray and they’re just as delicious!

Serving – You can serve this wreath up directly on the parchment paper that you cooked it on. You can also transfer it to a board or large plate. When you transfer it, some of the stars will break away. But it’s easy to arrange them back into the circle shape.

I wish I could show you a picture of the version I made. I made a savory one with a cheese spinach filling with leaves cut out & placed to look like a laurel wreath & then dusted the top with edible gold luster dust. Big hit! I realize this isn’t at all like your recipe, but I wanted you to know that this recipe inspired my own creativity. Thank you so much!

Great idea but unfortunately the lids came off and the Nutella burnt. Followed the instructions exactly. At least the mess tastes good but sadly can’t serve it as is

Hi Tina, we would not suggest freezing, but you could prepare a few hours ahead and refrigerate, then add the egg wash and bake just before you need it. Enjoy!

Could you make this the day before? Or does it need to be warm ideally? Great idea!

It’s best made fresh. although you could make it a few hours beforehand but not bake it. Keep it in the fridge then bake later.

Cómo le hacen para que el hojaldre no se esponje o crezca mucho? No parece hojaldre cuando la sacan del horno

    Is 200C , 400 F in US ovens?
Seems high for the wreath cookies.
    Thank you

      200 °Celsius = 392 °Fahrenheit

We have based this recipe on 200c in a fan oven for 15 mins, so it maybe a good idea to turn the oven temperature down slightly if your not using a fan assisted oven so that they don’t over cook.

      Hope this helps and enjoy!
